I have fond memories of Dec 2011. It was the third month of our relationship and my man was already head over heels in love with me! He is someone who is extremely expressive with his words and generous with his affection for me. Yet there is always a slight air of secrecy whenever we have a long trip coming up. This time was no different. I knew his penchant for taking me for blind dates and surprises, but this seemed different. Not that I was nervous per se but I was definitely curious and to be honest, childishly excited. I did hear him think aloud a couple of times but somehow I never really figured what was in the offing.
The D-Day was a December morning and slightly chilly when we set out. The drive out of Mumbai was replete with expected events – potholes, slow vehicles and narrow roads. But as soon as we hit the Ahmadabad highway we stumbled upon a joint realization. It was one of those moments that you have in the beginning of a relationship when no words are exchanged but a gentle brush of bodies, a warm touch and a naughty smile performs the communication.
I am a firm believer of the fact that quality scores over quantity of time spent with someone. At that moment, he was personifying that statement for me. There was a bevy of trucks occupying all three lanes of that lovely highway. But to us that implied a sacrilege not to push the pedal. Snaking through trucks at a good speed and with exceptional control, we raced ahead. It was as if these trucks were destined to be driven such so that he gets to test the torque and handling ability. We were creating music together with the engine growl at redline and squealing of the tires. Inside the cabin was another story altogether. Trance music is our common passion and it will be safe to assume that copious amounts of it were played during that journey.
He was so engrossed in driving that he did not want to halt. Who was I to complain? I enjoy his company so much that I wish we never stop! We cruised along the panoramic highway and winding village roads. The romantic drive was peppered with photo shoots, tea breaks and intimate moments of bonding.
Our drive culminated in the beautiful Little Rann of Kutch. We were greeted by the sight of sunset over expansive stretches of barren land. At that moment we knew this was a trip we were destined to do together. He got down and gently planted a kiss on my neck. I felt a gratification that only he could provide. He understood and responded in a special way and language that only I can interpret. After every drive, I’m left wondering who was more eager to please the other!
I’m his Black Beauty. I’m his soul mate. I’m his Fiat Linea TJet.
