A trip to the Finnish Lapland and witnessing the Northern Lights has always featured at the top of my bucket list. In spite of this, I had trouble planning this holiday because my warm blooded body did not want to commit to those extreme sub-zero temperatures. Nonetheless, no male in recorded history has been able to win an argument against his Better Half, and I am no exception to the rule. Aurora Borealis has been the topmost item on her list, so the minute she spotted a good deal, we made our ticket booking for February. Usually, at this stage, my role is somewhat over and I re-emerge a week or two before the travel date to make hotel bookings. The Gods of the Arctic Circle, however, had different plans for me this time around!  

Over the last decade, it has been well established that the travel industry has a disturbingly conniving relationship with my credit card. If the  The next few weekends reiterated this fact during my shopping stints for winter clothing and gear. I seriously could not believe the number of layers that were required to survive Lapland. I won’t deny, but I thought the Missus was being over-dramatic with the cold. Little did I know how utterly wrong I would be in Finland.  

Alongside the shopping, we started exploring the potential activities to fill up our days. I must admit, travel research for this trip changed my perspective completely. We did not leave any stone unturned, utilizing guide books, Youtube videos, blog articles and finally synthesizing everything into a neat Excel sheet for shortlisting and comparison (phew!).
